Mixtures Worksheets Grade 5 Science Worksheets

Definition and Examples

01.

A mixture is a combination of substances mixed without a chemical reaction, retaining their original properties. Examples include cereal mix, cookie dough, and air.

Homogeneous Mixtures

02.

These have uniform composition throughout with indistinguishable parts, like air, saline solution, and alloys (e.g., steel).

Heterogeneous Mixtures

03.

These are non-uniform with visible distinguishable parts, such as sand and water, oil and water, and chocolate chip cookies.

Solutions

04.

Homogeneous mixtures where solute particles are completely dissolved in the solvent, such as sugar in water, making the mixture clear and light cannot scatter.

Suspensions and Colloids

05.

Suspensions are heterogeneous with visible particles that scatter light and settle over time (e.g., chalk in water). Colloids have intermediate properties with particles that scatter light but do not settle (e.g., milk, ink).
