      How do you get a percentage of an amount?

      Let’s understand with a couple of examples:

      1. Find 16% of $1600

      Solution

      16% of $1600

      = 16/100 × 1600

      = $256

      Therefore, Answer: $256

      2. What is 80% of 15?

      Solution

      The whole is 15.
      The percentage is 80%.

      Let n represent the part.

      Write a proportion to solve for n.

      100n = 80 x 15

      100n = 1200

      n=12

      Therefore, Answer: 80% of 15 is 12.
