Points on the Coordinate Plane
Grade 6 Math Worksheets
What are the coordinates of a point called?
We can roughly imagine the top surface of our desk which stretches in every direction, North, South, East and West.
We need to imagine that these lines are constantly running, through the walls, through the next room, roads, hills, forest, streets, oceans, rivers etc.
In Math, a plane means a flat surface area that extends to every direction. Put your knowledge to the test with this challenging 6th Grade Math Worksheet! Read each question carefully and choose the response that you feel is correct.
In Math we always use a coordinate plane. The coordinate plane is two number lines running through each other. One horizontal, with left negative and right positive and the other vertical with up as positive and down as negative (as shown in the figure above).
The horizontal line is called the x-axis and the vertical are termed as the y-axis.
Now how do we identify a point of origin?
An origin is the point where two number lines meet.
So how do we recognize a point?
To locate a point we need to find out the coordinates. Point coordinates are just like an address of a particular location. We always write the x coordinates first and then the y coordinate within the parenthesis. Doubts? A 6th-grade Math tutor can help.
How do we divide a coordinate plane into 4 sections?
