Surface Area

1.

The total area of all the faces of a three-dimensional object.

Cube

2.

A six-sided polyhedron with all sides the same length.

Rectangular Prism

3.

A six-sided polyhedron with three pairs of parallel faces, all of which are rectangles.

To calculate the surface area of a cube, use the following formula

4.

Surface area = 6s^2 **where s is the side length of the cube.

To calculate the surface area of a rectangular prism, use the following formula

5.

Surface area = 2lw + 2lh + 2wh **where l, w, and h are the length, width, and height of the prism.

Find the surface area of a cube with a side length of 5 cm.

6.

Surface area = 6s^2  = 6 * 5^2  = 150 cm^2

Surface area of prism with dimensions 10x5x3 cm

7.

Surface area = 2lw + 2lh + 2wh  = 2 * 10 * 5 + 2 * 10 * 3 + 2 * 5 * 3  = 100 + 60 + 30 = 190 cm^2
