Thermodynamics is the branch of science that studies the relationship between heat, energy, and work.It studies how energy is converted from one form to another and how it affects matter.
One example of thermodynamics is a car engine. The engine converts the chemical energy in gasoline into heat and kinetic energy (energy of motion) to make the car move.
Another example is a refrigerator, it uses electricity to transfer heat from the inside of the refrigerator to the outside, keeping the inside cool.

Laws of Thermodynamics
The laws of thermodynamics are a set of fundamental principles that describe the behavior of energy and heat. There are four laws of thermodynamics, but the most basic and widely used are the first and second laws.
1. The First Law of Thermodynamics: also known as the law of energy conservation, states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred or converted from one form to another. This is similar to the law of conservation of energy. An example of this law would be burning a piece of wood. The energy from the wood is converted into heat and light energy, but the total amount of energy remains the same, it’s just in a different form.
2. The Second Law of Thermodynamics: also known as the law of entropy, states that in any energy transfer or transformation, the total entropy (a measure of disorder or randomness) of the universe always increases. This means that in any process, some energy will become unavailable and will be wasted, usually in the form of heat. An example of this law is a car engine, some of the energy from the gasoline is lost as heat and sound energy, and cannot be used to move the car.
3. The Third Law of Thermodynamics: It states that as the temperature of a system approaches absolute zero, the entropy of the system approaches a minimum value.
4. The Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics: It states that if two systems are in thermal equilibrium with a third system, then they are in thermal equilibrium with each other.
